Red Robin just launched this Western-style burger and I had to test it! Crispy onion straws add incredible crunch, smoky BBQ sauce and creamy ranch create the perfect sauce combo, and melted American cheese ties everything together. The double patties make this seriously filling. Lived up to the hype.
1. Divide the ground beef into two 3-ounce balls and gently form into even patties, about 1/2 inch thick — don't overwork the beef to keep them juicy.
2. Season both sides of each patty with kosher salt and black pepper; preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
3. Toast the sesame seed bun cut-side down in a skillet with butter until golden-brown, about 60–90 seconds — Red Robin tip: this creates a crispy-edged bun that stays sturdy under saucy toppings.
4. Grill patties for 3–4 minutes per side, adding a slice of American cheese to each during the last minute so it melts completely.
5. For onion straws, fry thin onion slices dredged in seasoned flour and buttermilk at 350°F until golden and crispy, about 2–3 minutes; drain well.
6. To assemble, spread BBQ sauce on the bottom bun, layer with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, both cheeseburger patties stacked, top with crispy onion straws, drizzle ranch dressing generously, and cap with the top bun.
7. Insert a burger pick to secure — serve immediately with bottomless-style steak fries for the full Red Robin experience.
