Mexican chocolate dissolved in hot water creates a frothy, traditional Oaxacan beverage. This vegetarian, fresh drink is a family-friendly, dairy-free way to enjoy authentic Mexican chocolate.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, pour in 4 cups of water and add the cinnamon stick.
Bring the water to a simmer, then break the Mexican chocolate tablet into pieces and add to the saucepan.
Reduce heat to low and whisk the mixture constantly until the chocolate is fully dissolved—about 5 minutes—being careful not to let it boil.
Remove the cinnamon stick, then add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, whisking until fully combined.
To finish, use a traditional molinillo or hand whisk to vigorously froth the chocolate for 1–2 minutes, then serve hot.
