Fluffy Chinese-style raisin bread studded with sweet raisins is a soft, family-friendly bakery loaf. A comforting breakfast bread with natural sweetness.
Warm the milk to just above body temperature (about 105–110°F) and combine with sugar and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
To the yeast mixture, add flour, salt, and the egg. Mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead in the softened butter, working until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky, about 10 minutes by hand.
Fold in the raisins, distributing them evenly. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled, about 60–90 minutes.
Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased bread pan or shape into rounds. Cover and proof for another 30–45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough proofs. Bake for 25–30 minutes until the top is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Let the bread cool on a wire rack; slice only once cooled to preserve fluffiness and moisture.
