Sweet glutinous rice is paired with ripe mango slices and drizzled with coconut cream. This tropical family dessert is refreshing, naturally sweet, and a beloved warm-weather treat.
Rinse the glutinous rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Drain the rice and steam it over medium-high heat for 25–30 minutes, making sure to keep the steam constant for even cooking.
While the rice steams, combine 1 cup coconut milk, 5 tbsp sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling. Remove from heat.
Transfer the cooked sticky rice to a large bowl and immediately pour the sweetened coconut milk mixture over it. Mix well and cover. Let the rice absorb the coconut milk at room temperature for 30 minutes.
For the coconut cream topping, gently simmer the remaining 1/4 cup coconut milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt over low heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring until slightly thickened.
Peel the mangoes and slice them into thick pieces, removing the pit.
To serve, mound the coconut-sweetened sticky rice on a plate, arrange mango slices on the side, drizzle with coconut cream topping, and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
