Creamy sausage pasta features Italian sausage in a rich, garlicky cream sauce tossed with penne. A quick, protein-packed family dinner that delivers bold flavor in under 30 minutes.
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil and cook penne pasta until al dente, about 10–11 minutes. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta water.
2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon. Brown sausage for 5–6 minutes until fully cooked.
3. Add onion to the sausage, and sauté for 3 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, being careful not to burn.
4. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour in heavy cream, stir thoroughly, and simmer for 3–4 minutes to thicken. Add Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning, mixing until the sauce becomes creamy and glossy.
5. Toss cooked penne into the skillet with the sauce. Add reserved pasta water as needed for desired consistency. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and serve immediately for best texture.
