Warm, fluffy dinner rolls fresh from the oven are a family-favorite bread for any holiday or weeknight meal. These soft, golden rolls are the perfect vehicle for butter and gravy.
Warm the milk until just lukewarm (about 105°F), then stir in active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, beaten egg, and melted butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down the risen dough, then divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and arrange them in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again until puffy, about 30–40 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 18–20 minutes until golden brown on top. Immediately brush with melted butter and let cool slightly before serving.
