Pan-fried turnip cake with golden crispy edges and savory radish flavor is a dim sum breakfast staple. A family favorite with fresh, vegetarian appeal.
Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté shallots and chopped mushrooms for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
Add shredded turnip to the pan and stir-fry for 5–6 minutes until just softened and moisture is released. Add salt and white pepper; mix well.
In a large bowl, combine rice flour and water to create a smooth batter. Stir in the sautéed vegetable mixture, soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil until fully blended.
Pour batter into a greased 8-inch square pan. Smooth out the surface and steam over medium-high heat for 45–50 minutes until set. Cool completely before unmolding.
Slice the cooled cake into ¾-inch thick pieces. Heat remaining vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high, and pan-fry slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp on both sides. Serve hot.
