Extravagant Carnival lasagna layered with tiny meatballs, sausage, ricotta, and eggs is Neapolitan festivity. This protein-packed mediterranean celebration dish feeds the whole family.
Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a deep baking dish with olive oil.
Prepare the meatballs by combining ground beef, half the Parmesan, 1 beaten egg, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Form into marble-sized balls and sauté in olive oil until just browned.
Cook Italian sausage, breaking into small chunks, over medium heat for 5–6 minutes; drain excess fat and set aside.
Mix ricotta with 2 beaten eggs, remaining Parmesan, nutmeg, and chopped basil until smooth.
Layer ingredients: Spread tomato sauce on the base, then arrange noodles, followed by ricotta mixture, meatballs, sausage, mozzarella, and repeat layers. Finish with noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and a sprinkle of Parmesan.
Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, then remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbling and golden. Rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
