Ground black sesame is blended into a rich, velvety sweet soup. This traditional Cantonese family dessert is nutty, aromatic, and believed to nourish hair and skin health.
Toast the black sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes until fragrant, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
Let the toasted seeds cool slightly, then blend in a high-powered blender or food processor until a fine powder forms.
In a large saucepan, mix glutinous rice flour with 1/2 cup of water until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
Gradually whisk in the remaining water and ground black sesame powder into the saucepan over medium heat.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring continuously to prevent sticking; cook for 8–10 minutes until the soup thickens to a creamy, velvety texture.
Lower the heat, stir in granulated sugar and salt, and continue cooking and stirring for 2–3 more minutes until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Serve the hot black sesame soup immediately for the creamiest consistency.
