Hard-boiled eggs and toast — nothing fancy, but it works. Quick protein, easy carbs, and you can eat it 45 minutes before the gym without feeling heavy.
Place eggs in a medium saucepan and cover them with cold water by 1 inch.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 9 minutes.
While the eggs cook, toast whole wheat bread until golden and crisp using a toaster on medium setting.
Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water; let them sit for at least 3 minutes to stop cooking and make peeling easier.
Peel the eggs, slice each in half, and serve on top of toast slices. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper evenly before eating.
