Sweet rice rolls dusted with sugar offer a simple, comforting breakfast treat. A vegetarian, family-friendly recipe with naturally sweet, fresh flavor.
Rinse the sweet glutinous rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
Combine the rinsed rice and water in a saucepan. Cover with a tight lid and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce to low. Cook for 18–20 minutes without lifting the lid, allowing the rice to gently steam.
After cooking, turn off the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for another 10 minutes to finish steaming.
While still warm but cool enough to handle, portion the rice and gently shape into compact rolls, about 4 inches long, on a clean surface using slightly wet hands to prevent sticking.
Sprinkle each roll evenly with granulated sugar and a pinch of salt, gently rolling to coat all sides. Serve warm for best texture.
