Prawn masala is a succulent, spiced shrimp curry cooked in a rich onion-tomato gravy. This high protein, low-calorie seafood dish supports weight loss and fits well into a 1200 calorie or keto meal plan.
Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When shimmering, add finely chopped onion and sauté for 5–6 minutes until translucent and golden.
Add the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for 1–2 minutes on medium-low heat until fragrant but not browned.
Stir in chopped tomato and cook uncovered for 6–7 minutes on medium heat until the tomatoes break down and oil separates from the mixture.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, and black pepper. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring well so the spices bloom in the oil.
Toss in the shrimp and salt, coating well with the masala. Increase the heat to medium-high, and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until shrimp turn opaque and curl tightly; do not overcook.
Sprinkle garam masala, mix gently, and cook for 1 more minute. Remove from heat immediately.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
